The Palestinian Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Dr. Tamer Almassri, has issued a stark warning that the unchecked aggression of what he termed the Israeli apartheid state poses grave threats to global peace and security.
In a statement ambassador said without accountability, Israel will persist in committing reckless acts under fabricated excuses, even targeting its allies in pursuit of its agenda.
According to the ambassador, the relentless bombardment of Gaza City by Israeli forces has left the once-thriving metropolis in ruins. Entire city blocks have been flattened by sustained airstrikes, while remotely controlled robots loaded with explosives have added to the destruction. The devastation has claimed the lives of more than 65,283 Palestinians, the majority of them children and women, while over 12,000 remain trapped beneath the rubble.
Dr. Almassri highlighted that Israel’s actions, which amount to crimes against humanity and violations of international law, are carried out with open arrogance. He accused the Israeli government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, of wearing its acts of genocide as a badge of pride. This, he warned, is not only an assault on the Palestinian people but also a direct challenge to the credibility and integrity of the international system, its institutions, and the values they claim to uphold.
The ambassador stressed that Israel’s impunity is setting a dangerous precedent. By acting without consequences, Israel risks emboldening future regimes with fascist tendencies to adopt similar practices of violence, oppression, and disregard for human rights. He described the forced displacement of Gaza’s population—where civilians are herded under fire into Khan Younis—as a chilling reminder of the ghettos and concentration camps of Nazi Germany. Dr. Almassri further pointed to Israel’s use of internationally banned weapons, the systematic destruction of infrastructure, and deliberate starvation of civilians as part of Netanyahu’s fascist tactics.
Despite the grim realities unfolding in Gaza, Dr. Almassri acknowledged positive international developments. He welcomed recent decisions by Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and other countries that have taken steps in recognition of the just and legitimate rights of the Palestinian people. He described these gestures as vital in defending the two-state solution from the existential threats posed by Israel’s ongoing crimes, including genocide, forced displacement, starvation, and territorial annexation.
The ambassador concluded by urging the global community to hold Israel accountable and to act decisively in order to safeguard not only Palestinian lives but also international peace and the rule of law.
