Palestine Ambassador to Zimbabwe Tamer Almassri has sharply condemned the renewed and sustained bombardment of Gaza by Israeli forces, warning that the escalating violence poses serious humanitarian, diplomatic and regional stability risks.
The latest attacks have reportedly killed at least 51 Palestinians, including six children and several police officers, in what he described as a clear violation of the existing ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip.
Almassri said the continued hostilities undermine confidence in ceasefire mechanisms and weaken prospects for long-term peace, which is critical for economic stability and reconstruction in the region. He stressed that Gaza’s population requires more than intermittent pauses in fighting, calling instead for a credible and permanent ceasefire that can restore predictability and enable humanitarian relief and recovery efforts.
According to figures cited by the ambassador, the cumulative impact of the conflict since October 2023 has been devastating, with an estimated 71,795 Palestinians killed and 171,551 injured. He noted with concern that even after a ceasefire was declared on October 11, 2025, violence has persisted, resulting in a further 523 deaths and 1,433 injuries, raising questions about enforcement and accountability.
Almassri urged the international community to move beyond statements of concern and take decisive action to protect civilian lives, enforce compliance with ceasefire agreements and hold violators accountable. He warned that prolonged instability will continue to derail development, deter investment and deepen humanitarian and economic distress, making sustainable peace not only a moral imperative but a strategic necessity for the region.
