Harare — Walter Magaya, founder of PHD Ministries, has been implicated in a case involving the possession of unregistered vaginal creams and other pharmaceutical products following a police raid at Yadah Hotel.
The hotel, represented by director Donald Makuvaza, appeared before Harare magistrate Lisa Mutendereki and pleaded guilty to charges of possessing unregistered and unapproved complementary medicines. The matter has been remanded to March 10 for plea recording.
According to the State, detectives from CID Headquarters acted on a tip-off on November 15 last year alleging that unregistered medicines were being stored in one of the hotel rooms. Upon conducting a search, officers reportedly recovered large quantities of pharmaceutical products, including miconazole nitrate vaginal cream, clotrimazole, fluconazole tablets, metronidazole, acyclovir topical cream, cotrimoxazole pills, sodium bicarbonate injections, and other medicines.
Authorities also allegedly recovered Compounded Prescription Weekly forms indicating the medicines were intended for an individual identified as Happiness Mavindire.
While the charge before the court relates to possession of unregistered and unapproved complementary medicines, the discovery of significant quantities of vaginal creams has placed Magaya, whose business interests are linked to the hotel, at the centre of the unfolding legal proceedings.
The State maintains that Yadah Hotel had no lawful authority to possess the seized medicines.
Investigations are ongoing.
