HARARE – First Capital Bank has partnered with Royal Harare Golf Club to spearhead the proposed development of a new pavilion and halfway house facility, a strategic investment that underscores the bank’s growing commitment to infrastructure development, youth empowerment and building institutions that create long-term value for Zimbabwe.
Speaking at the official signing ceremony, First Capital Bank Chief Executive Officer, Tapera Mushoriwa, said the partnership reflects the bank’s philosophy of investing beyond immediate commercial returns and into projects that leave a lasting legacy for future generations.
“This partnership reflects investment which extends beyond business growth to the development of assets and opportunities that will serve communities for generations to come,” Mushoriwa said.
The agreement, structured over a 20-year period, represents a significant commitment to one of Zimbabwe’s most prestigious sporting institutions and forms part of the bank’s broader strategy of supporting national development through sustainable, long-term investments.
The proposed construction project is currently awaiting regulatory approvals before ground-breaking can commence. Despite the pending approvals, the bank remains optimistic that the development will be completed before the end of the year.
“The pavilion is expected to be completed before the close of the year although we are still waiting for regulatory approvals,” the bank said.
First Capital Bank did not disclose the value of the investment earmarked for the development, indicating that the capital expenditure budget will be announced in due course.
Beyond the physical infrastructure, the partnership encompasses a broader programme aimed at creating value for both the golfing community and the wider public. Planned initiatives include support for junior golf development programmes, coaching clinics, community engagement activities and various opportunities designed to contribute to the continued growth and sustainability of the sport in Zimbabwe.
The investment further strengthens First Capital Bank’s longstanding relationship with Zimbabwean golf and complements its role as title sponsor of the Zimbabwe Junior Golf Open, one of the region’s premier junior golf tournaments and a key platform for nurturing emerging talent.
Commenting on the partnership, First Capital Bank Head of Marketing and Communications, Fadzai Marowa, said the investment demonstrates the institution’s confidence in Zimbabwe’s future and its determination to support projects capable of delivering enduring economic and social benefits.
“This partnership reflects our confidence in Zimbabwe and our belief that sustainable growth is built through long-term investment. Whether through our new Head Office development, continued investment in technology and customer experience, or projects such as this, First Capital Bank is committed to playing its part in building institutions and infrastructure that will contribute to the country’s future,” Marowa said.
She added that the bank views strategic partnerships as opportunities to create lasting impact rather than merely supporting short-term initiatives.
“We believe that meaningful partnerships should leave a legacy. This is not simply about supporting a sporting facility; it is about contributing to an asset that will serve generations of golfers while creating opportunities for youth development, community engagement, and the continued growth of the game.”
Marowa noted that sport remains one of the most powerful tools for shaping future leaders, providing young people with opportunities to develop critical life skills such as discipline, resilience, teamwork and leadership.
“We are particularly excited about the junior development opportunities that this partnership creates. Zimbabwe has immense sporting talent, and the future of our sport depends on creating pathways that allow young people to access opportunities, mentorship, and competition. By investing in sport, we are investing in future leaders,” she said.
The proposed pavilion development is expected to become a landmark feature at Royal Harare Golf Club, symbolising a partnership founded on shared values, long-term commitment and a strong belief in Zimbabwe’s potential.
For First Capital Bank, the initiative represents another milestone in its strategy of supporting projects that generate lasting impact while contributing meaningfully to the country’s social and economic development. The partnership also builds on the bank’s growing legacy within Zimbabwean golf.
As the founding sponsor of the Zimbabwe Junior Golf Open, First Capital Bank is this year celebrating the tournament’s Wood Anniversary, marking five years of investment in the next generation of golfers under the theme, “Belief in Every Swing.”
As Zimbabwe continues to pursue economic growth and institutional development, First Capital Bank says it remains focused on investing in infrastructure, talent development and community-driven initiatives that help shape a stronger and more sustainable future for generations to come.
