Zanu-PF Politburo member and deputy national secretary for Youth Affairs Lewis Matutu and political commissar Godfrey Tsenengamu have demanded action from President Mnangagwa in the fight against corruption.

Addressing the media in Harare Monday afternoon, Matutu and Tsenengamu, however, declared that no one had capacity to capture President Mnangagwa.

In his opening remarks, Tsenengamu likened Zimbabwe to a sinking ship which needed rescue from its leadership.

“We are in a situation where the country is a ship that is filling with water, everyone has noticed the problem and we expect the captain to come to rescue the situation,” he said.

Unlike in the previous “Name and Shame” press briefing, Matutu and Tsenengamu disclosed a handful of names, who, coincidentally, were also revealed in the previous list.

They also revealed a few companies and unnamed individuals as fueling corruption in Zimbabwe.

“Though I don’t want to be involved in politics today what I can certainly confirm is that no one has the capacity to capture that man (President Mnangagwa), in fact there is no one who is being captured,” he said.

The two Zanu-PF youths leaders also took time to distance the ruling party from their actions.

They, however, said they would soon convene a national stakeholders’ conference including the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission, Zimbabwe Republic Police, National Prosecution Authority, judiciary and other stakeholders.

They also urged Zimbabweans to stake their claim in the fight against corruption.

“We are calling on all Zimbabweans to be part of this initiative because we have to stop this scourge. Right now there is no mealie-meal in the country but you see it on the black market,” Matutu said.

He said the shortage of affordable mealie-meal was an indication of growing corruption in Zimbabwe.

Meanwhile, it has since emerged that Zanu-PF youth league executive members have started distancing themselves from Matutu and Tsenengamu’s statements.

The members took turns to dismiss the two’s views saying they do not represent the entire league.

There are also indications that the divisions among the members led to Matutu and Tsenengamu engaging the media outside the Zanu-PF national headquarters in Harare.
