Harare – Robert Mugabe Jr., son of the late former president Mugabe, will spend another night behind bars after the Harare Magistrates Court on Thursday postponed his bail hearing to Friday.

Mugabe Jr. was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly possessing illegal drugs while driving a Honda Fit against traffic, police sources confirmed. His arrest has sparked widespread public interest given his family’s high-profile political background.

Authorities have yet to disclose the type or quantity of drugs allegedly found in his possession, with investigators saying inquiries are still underway.

Prosecutors requested additional time to prepare their case, leading to the postponement. Mugabe Jr.’s lawyers say they are ready to mount a defence when proceedings resume.

The case has reignited debate over accountability within Zimbabwe’s political families and the broader rule of law.

The court is expected to decide on Mugabe Jr.’s bail application when the hearing continues Friday.
