MASVINGO — Chairperson of the Land Tenure Implementation Committee and prominent businessman Kudakwashe Tagwirei has urged Zimbabweans especially the youth—to seize the opportunity to acquire land and title deeds as a foundation for wealth creation and national prosperity.

Addressing hundreds of students at Masvingo Polytechnic College during an event organized by Young Women for Economic Development (YW4ED), Tagwirei emphasized the transformative power of land ownership in line with President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030 agenda.

“When the President is giving us title deeds, he is giving us access to wealth,” said Tagwirei.

“The word wealth means power. If you have wealth, you can protect yourself, create value, and build for future generations. The President wants us to have dignity and respect through the wealth we create.”

Tagwirei made a bold call for people to rethink their approach to wealth and assets, encouraging entrepreneurial thinking:

“If you are a businessman, a house is not an asset but an expense. It’s better to sell the house and get land that will generate more income for you,” he said.

He also urged people to act swiftly in registering for land, warning that multiple farm ownership will not be tolerated under the new system.

“Please don’t be lazy—go and register or else you will be left out,” Tagwirei said.

“As we are giving out title deeds, once we discover that a family owns two or more farms, we will repossess the extra. It’s one for each family.”

Tagwirei’s vision extends beyond Vision 2030, as he projects a prosperous Zimbabwe with a GDP of US$153 billion by 2050, with US$29 billion of that expected to come from agriculture alone.

“We want a Zimbabwe where young people and women are empowered through land. Farming is not just a tradition, it is a business and a driver of national economic transformation,” he said.

Deputy Minister of Energy and Power Development, Honourable Yeukai Simbanegavi, echoed similar sentiments, saying the Constitution mandates youth to participate in building Zimbabwe.

“Our government gives us equal opportunities, and there is a legislative framework that supports that. It is our time as women and youths to grab that opportunity and empower ourselves,” she said.

Masvingo Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Ezra Chadzamira, applauded the new land tenure system as a sustainable policy that inspires productivity and investment.

“We want to thank President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his administration for coming up with this new land tenure system. It encourages farmers to invest in their land and be productive,” he said.

The Land Tenure Implementation Committee is spearheading efforts to regularize land ownership through title deeds, registration, and support services such as access to low-interest loans, ensuring land is both productive and beneficial to the economy.

The event, which brought together stakeholders from government, education, and the private sector, served as a rallying point for youth empowerment, agricultural development, and the building of a self-reliant Zimbabwe in line with Vision 2030 and beyond.
