Ambassador Tamer Almassri has congratulated the Government and people of the Republic of Zimbabwe following the country’s successful election to the United Nations Security Council for the 2027–2028 term.
Zimbabwe’s election by a strong majority during the United Nations General Assembly vote reflects the high regard and trust that the international community places in the nation. The achievement underscores Zimbabwe’s consistent commitment to diplomatic engagement, respect for national sovereignty, and its advocacy for a fairer and more balanced global order.
As Zimbabwe prepares to assume its responsibilities on the Security Council, the State of Palestine expresses confidence that the country will effectively champion the interests and aspirations of the Global South. Palestine believes Zimbabwe will continue to uphold the principles of international law, support the protection of civilians, and promote peaceful, multilateral approaches to addressing global challenges and conflicts.
At a time when international peace and security mechanisms are facing unprecedented pressures, Zimbabwe’s presence on the Council is expected to bring valuable perspectives rooted in dialogue, peaceful coexistence, and respect for the internal affairs of sovereign states. Palestine looks forward to Zimbabwe’s meaningful contributions during its tenure and remains committed to deepening bilateral cooperation in pursuit of a more peaceful, just, and inclusive world.
The State of Palestine also reaffirmed the longstanding friendship between the two nations, founded on a shared history of struggle for national liberation, self-determination, and justice. Over the years, Zimbabwe and Palestine have stood together in advancing the cause of freedom, and Palestine remains grateful for Zimbabwe’s continued support of the Palestinian people’s aspirations for an independent and sovereign state, with Jerusalem as its capital.
The State of Palestine further wishes the Government of Zimbabwe continued success as it undertakes its important diplomatic responsibilities on the international stage.
