Harare – Zimbabwe has launched the second phase of its “Strength is in You” anti-drug campaign, with renewed support from the Swedish Embassy and Population Solutions for Health, as the country intensifies its fight against drug and substance abuse.

Speaking at the launch, Deputy Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare, Mercy Dinha, said the campaign is a critical step in protecting the nation’s youth and rebuilding communities affected by drugs.

“This is more than just a launch, it’s a collective commitment to securing the future of Zimbabwe’s children,” she said.

The campaign falls under the Zimbabwe Multi-Sectoral Drug and Substance Abuse Plan (2024–2030), launched by President Emmerson Mnangagwa last year, which includes strategies such as prevention, rehabilitation, legal reform, and psychosocial support.

Executive Director of Population Solutions for Health, Dr. Noah Tarubereka, said the campaign now targets a range of harmful societal norms.

“With this support, we’re using mass media, digital tools, and peer networks to challenge drug abuse, gender-based violence, and child marriage,” he said.

Sweden’s Deputy Head of Mission, Dag Sundelin, emphasized early intervention.

“Prevention is key. A drug-free youth is essential for Zimbabwe’s development,” he said, adding that the campaign now also highlights the experiences of caregivers supporting youth through addiction.

As part of the national response, the government has opened public rehabilitation centers in Victoria Falls, Kwekwe, and Bindura. The Angel of Hope Foundation, led by First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa, also operates a rehabilitation facility in Mbare.

Phase II of the campaign expands its reach through caregivers, influencers, and community champions to drive grassroots change and promote inclusive healing.
