The embattled wife of Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, Marry Mubaiwa, faces at least six charges of money laundering and fraud as well as one count of misrepresentations amid indications that the fallout in their union is the cause for her crisis.
According to charges drafted by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC), Mary allegedly externalized close to USD$1 million to South Africa and China on several occasions. On another charge, Mary is being accused of misrepresenting to the president of the High Court George Chiweshe that the Vice President Chiwenga wanted to wed with her.

The state alleges that Mary had purchased wedding rings for the two and had put in motion plans for the ceremony.
“By such misrepresentation, the accused caused prejudice to the good administration of justice and the reputation of the complaint (Chiwenga)”, read part of the charge sheet.
