With his estranged wife Marry, battling ill-health in prison cells, Vice President Constantino Chiwenga has flown back to China for medical review.
Addressing a church gathering in Bulawayo, President Emmerson Mnangagwa disclosed that his deputy had gone back to China for treatment.
“Our VP, Cde Chiwenga, is in China for medical review. He will be back in the country soon,” said Mnangagwa.
Chiwenga spent close to six months in China where he underwent two surgical operations for suspected poisoning.
The VP came back in November and immediately assumed his duties.
Upon his return, he caused his wife Marry Mubaiwa to be arrested and charged with fraud, money laundering and externalisation. Marry was also accused of attempting to kill the VP.
The lawyers representing the ex-model have been battling to secure her out of remand prison on bail but the case has on two occasions postponed.
On Sunday, the Anchor was told that Marry was critically ill and that her condition had significantly deteriorated.
