Former University of Zimbabwe student representative Zivai Mhetu is the new MDC-T provincial chairman.

According to the Douglas Mwonzora-led opposition party, Mhetu will lead the provincial party structures until the nexy elective congress.

In a statement, the MDC-T provincial spokesperson for Harare, Fungai Chiposi revealed that Mhetu had outwitted former acting chairperson Simon Hove.

Mhetu, who will be deputised by Kerina Dhewa, is a former Zimbabwe National Students national spokesperson.

The gap-filling interim elections were conducted by MDC- T organizing secretary Gift Chimanikire and his deputy Rhino Mashaya.

“This new interim provincial executive and Management committee will take the Harare Province to the ordinary Congress of the party,” he said.

“All the available members of the provincial executive were promptly allocated portfolios that they will be leading. Management and executive committee is there to provide consulting services with commitment contributing to the socio-economic development.”

Other members include Luckson Mukunguma (secretary), Hove as treasure, organiser Clifton Zumba and Nelson Matarirano, who will be responsible for elections.

Mwonzora who won an explosive congress against party stalwarts including former interim leader Thokozani Khupe, former national chairman Morgan Komichi and Elias Mudzuri has upped efforts to build party structures across Zimbabwe.
