Mafume elected Harare mayor

Lawyer and MDC-Alliance councillor for Mt Pleasant Jacob Mafume has been elected Harare mayor following the recall of Herbert Gomba by the Thokozani Khupe-led MDC-T formation.

Mafume outpolled Luckson Mukunguma 19-14 in a vote by councillors.

Immediately after taking over the reins, Mafume said he wants to turn Harare and make the capital city a smart city while prioritizing service delivery. بطوله اليورو 2024 He also said he wants to the city to be corruption free.

MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa took to Twitter after the announcement and congratulated the youthful mayor who is a councillor for Mt Pleasant.

Gomba and five other councillors were recalled with MDC-T secretary general Douglas Mwonzora indicating that they were dealing with errant officials failing to respect the party’s leadership. العاب مصراوى طاوله 31

MDC-T recalled the councillors since the MDC-A list, on which the six were elected, was a composite of the allocated nominations of the eight parties that went into the electoral alliance with the deal being that the constituent parties would retain their identity and control. مشاهدة beoutq

Other recalled councillors include Lovemore Makuwerere, Hammy Madzingira, Costa Mande, Kudzai Kadzombe, Happymore Gotora and Gilbert Hadebe.

Four other councillors — Denford Ngadziore (Ward 16), Girisoti Mandere (Ward 44),  Jaison Kautsa (Ward 37) and Tonderai Chakeredza (Ward 31) — recalled in July this year.

A Supreme Court ruling against MDC-A president Nelson Chamisa for grabbing power outside the MDC-T’s own internal rules after the death of founding leader Morgan Tsvangirai in 2018 saw the party revert to its 2014 structures with Khupe as the interim president.

Gomba is on also on a $10 000 bail after he was arrested on abuse of office charges after he allegedly connived with his accomplices and altered an approved layout plan belonging to Youth in Business Housing Trust.

Gomba and his accomplices allegedly converted State land to council land and allocated it to Taringana Housing Scheme, with the same plan number that was allocated to Youths in Business Trust.
