Political activist and fierce critic of the Emmerson Mnangagwa administration Patson Dzamara has died, MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa has said.
He was due for surgery after being diagnosed with cancer.
Dzamara was the younger brother to the disappeared equally firebrand political activist and journalist, Itai, who has not been seen since 2015 and had been a vocal critic of former President Robert Mugabe before he was abducted from a barbershop on 9 March 2015.
Chamisa said on Twitter: “I’m so devastated..Just received bad news from the Dzamaras. The young Dr Patson Dzamara gone too soon. This has been a terrible 2020!.”
Dzamara last posted on the same platform on August 22 thanking people for the support he received after learning of the disease.
“I am humbled at the amount of people who have shared strength with me in the past few days. The outpouring of assistance and goodwill in many forms is heartening. Together we will testify. Thank you. Mega blessings,” he said.
